Trigger Point Release & Massage

Have your muscles been feeling tense and tight lately, we have the solution for you and it is called trigger point release.

What are Trigger Points?

Trigger points are areas in the muscle that are painful when compressed. They are also known as “the spot” .

Trigger points usually result from injury to the muscle but can also be caused by poor posture and overuse (or under-use) of a muscle. They can cause intense pain either where they are located or in another area (referred pain).

What is Trigger Point Therapy?

Trigger point therapy focuses on relieving muscle knots or “trigger points” that cause pain and restricted movement. By applying targeted pressure to these specific points, therapists release muscle tension and reduce discomfort, improving overall mobility and function.

Benefits of Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger point therapy or trigger point release massage helps alleviate chronic pain, improve range of motion, and reduce muscle stiffness. It also aids in relieving headaches, sciatica, and stress-related tension, promoting better physical performance and well-being.

How does Trigger Point Release Work?

During a remedial session, the practitioner will palpate your muscle and try to detect the tight spots in it. After locating the tight spot, the practitioner will then apply light comfortable pressure to the spot and surrounding area.

This pressure can increase or decrease appropriate to the issue at hand and your comfort levels.  It’s this pressure that speeds up recovery and corrects the imbalances you might have in your muscle. The pressure does this by increasing blood flow to the area and triggering the body to release anti-inflammatory chemicals.

What conditions Can Trigger Point Therapy Help?

Trigger point therapy can be used for a variety of conditions. Some of these include:

  • Muscle injury
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Muscle tightness
  • Carpel Tunnel Syndrome
  • Temporalmandibular junction (TMJ) pain
  • Lower back pain
  • Heel pain

Apart from manual touch, trigger point therapy can also be applied using dry needling, another service we offer.

Frequently asked questions

A trigger point release massage targets tight knots in muscles, using focused pressure to release tension, reduce pain, and restore normal muscle function.

Unlike regular massage, trigger point therapy focuses on specific knots or “trigger points,” applying deep pressure to alleviate localized pain and improve mobility.

Trigger point therapy can help treat many musculoskeletal conditions such as back pain, migraines, sciatica, TMJ pain, muscle cramps, and sports-related injuries by addressing muscle tightness and dysfunction.

Trigger Point Therapy is incorporated into your remedial massage session and makes up part of a more dynamic session of massage, mobilisation and stretching.  A typical remedial  session in Adelaide lasts between 30 to 60 minutes, a portion of that time is spent treating specific trigger points.
